It seems that nothing can stop the poker boom in Germany. 250,000 German players admit to regularly playing poker online. Market research has shown that by 2010, approximately 3,000,000 people in Germany will play poker online.

In this article we will analyze this phenomenon and will seek to explain the main reasons why poker has become such a popular game in Germany. The Internet is one of the main reasons for the poker boom in Germany. It has become very easy for beginners, to learn how to play poker online. Unlike in a normal offline casino, one can play for very low amounts online. A beginner can hide his nervousness and bad poker face behind the computer screen. There are other advantages for both beginners and more professional players: Online poker rooms are open 24/7.

One does not have to pay the high entry costs of a casino or travel all the way to Vegas and it’s possible to play in ones pajamas rather than having to wear a tuxedo. Beginners can play with other beginners, rather than getting taken to the cleaners by the usually more professional players who frequent casino poker tables. The limits at an online casino start at 1 cent and there are many bonuses and free money offers online. There is an endless choice of opponents and game types online and the depositing of money online has become increasingly simple.

The more Germans become used to buying things online, the more they will be tempted to try their luck at one of the many online games and online poker is known to be the most fun and exiting game of them all. The television has brought poker to thousands of German households. Everyone can see nowadays, that poker is not a dodgy game played by gangsters in sleazy bars. Instead, film stars such as Ben Affleck and David Schwimmer can be seen at the tables, as well as many sporting legends such as Michael Phelps and Shane Warne. This has made poker trendy and stylish. In America, poker has become the most popular sport after American Football and Nascar Racing. Tendency rising. Despite the somewhat bizarre legal situation regarding online poker (it is forbidden to play poker online in the US, but the game is legal according to EU laws) the game is seen as a strategy game by an increasing number of people today. It is more simple than chess, but the element of strategy and deception appeals to an increasing number of people across the globe. Poker, online or with friends, is a psychological community game. What can you read in the eyes of your opponent? Do you have better cards than me? Should you raise? Are you good at bluffing?

Poker is pure excitement for everyone – regardless of age or gender. Poker enthusiasts know this: In the long run, the better player will beat the lucky player. If this is a pure game of chance, how can one explain that it is always the best players who win the biggest tournaments repeatedly? Another factor for the popularity of poker is the fact that good players can win enormous amounts of money. Winners of the World Series of Poker take home many millions of dollars. In the year 2003 Chris Moneymaker, a player no one heard of until then, won the $2,500,000 Prize pool after having only spent $39 to take part. It was his first live tournament and he thereby fulfilled the dream of every poker player and gave hope to millions that they too could be the next stars.

When a person hears that poker is generally considered a game of logic, the usual reaction would be to take a step back from the game. The mere mention of logic and strategy might send someone running for somewhere to hide. What this person might not know is that in spite of the considered challenge that poker poses, there are simple poker rules which can vastly help even the beginner players.

The rules that I would enumerate here are not the specific rules of the game. The subsequent items enumerated here are better than the specific rules of the standard game. Many pro players have been adopting these rules and, more often than not, they benefit from these rules.

The first simple poker rule is to use your mathematical skills. Particularly your ability to mentally calculate and estimate bets and percentages of winning. The best poker players know that there is a 1/8 chance of getting a set when a pocket pair is on hand and that there is a 1/3 chance of possessing a flush draw. Mathematical skills also include the ability to know the importance of outs-the cards that can improve the set you have. Determining the pot odds are also dependent on one’s mathematical skills. Once able to compute the gravity of the odds involved, a player will know if he will be able to win and if so, how much to bet. Remember that a mathematical skill is one of the most basic rules of poker. Without this, it would be very difficult to win.

Another simple poker rule is to be disciplined. Non-thinking poker players are usually the least disciplined ones and seldom do they win with their hands. They do not impose a limit on themselves and are usually more than eager to bet everything they have just to play as many hands as possible-they are after the quantity and not the quality of the game. A disciplined player is also the one who knows the right time to play and the best time to stop. He can immediately recognize if the odds are with him or against him, thus, he knows when he has the higher probability of winning than losing. Most of all, a disciplined player knows how to accept his mistakes. He does not put the blame on others and get angry with them for his losses, instead, he puts into mind his mistakes and learns from them. Then he stores this knowledge for future games.

Another important yet simple poker rule is the consciousness of the concept of risk versus rewards specifically because poker games usually involve betting. Good poker players are usually willing to take high stakes if they think the reward is higher than the risk involved. Worrying so much about losing will not be any help to a player. Once a player joined others in a poker table, he should be aware that losing is one of the greater risks of the game. Most important of these, the player should be aware of his life outside poker. He should be conscious of the things that await him outside the playing room, particularly his financial needs and of his family’s. Most people get caught up with their games that they forget that there is life after poker and that it is worth more than poker. These people tend to bet even their most valuable belongings and continue to bet even when it is very apparent that they are on a losing streak.

Recognizing that the stated simple poker rules above are valuable will be of great aid to a poker player. The correct handling of cards fall under these rules and if a player will be able to comprehend and practice these rules, he will already have a big advantage over his opponents.

True to their name, a freeroll poker tournament is a free promotional event sponsored by poker rooms and is a great reason to play poker online. Online poker rooms hope the allure of a free poker tournament will bring people to their poker rooms. While there are several different types of freeroll tournaments, two that stand out are the gargantuan-sized fields and the modest prize pools. You wont get rich playing at a freeroll poker tournament, but it presents an invaluable opportunity to gain some tournament experience. In addition, you may be the winner and take home a few dollars without ever making a deposit. You can almost consider the tournament as part of the poker bonuses offered by many poker rooms. It also gives you a free chance to see if you like a particular room before making a deposit. read more
